9,560 houses to be ready in North Andhra by 2018 end

The state government has allocated a Budget of Rs 510 crore.

Visakhapatnam: In the next one year, Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APTIDCO) will deliver 9,560 houses in three North Andhra districts - Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam. The state government has allocated a Budget of Rs 510 crore to the nodal agency for the construction of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) houses in nine urban areas of the three districts. All the houses will be ready to occupy by the end of next December, APTIDCO managing director BM Diwan Mydeen told Deccan Chronicle.

Initially, the state has planned 4,780 houses in five locations - Satyanarayanapuram, Parawada, Raticheruvu, Aganampudi and China Mushidiwada of Visakhapatnam district. However, it has dropped 660 houses to be built in uneven and hillock areas of the district. It has proposed 4,160 houses at two locations - Saripalli and Sonia Nagar in Vizianagaram district and 1,280 houses at Patrunivalasa in Srikakulam district. "Already, work has started in several areas though we faced some delay in clearing the site at Sonia Nagar in Vizianagaram. There was also a dispute at China Mushidiwada where some locals claimed that the allotted land belongs to them," Mr Mydeen said.

The ground plus three (G+3) houses will be constructed using monolithic construction technology, using a single structure for filling the homogeneous concrete material. The shear wall technology is being imported from South Korea and Malaysia. "This technology will help completing construction of walls and slab in five days. Later, the same structure can be used to build another house. With this, the rooms will be stronger and more spacious when compared to the conventional construction technology," he informed.

According to the APTIDCO officials, the EWS houses will be constructed in 300, 365, 430 sft in G+3 model under Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), a part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Housing for All scheme in urban areas. The APTIDCO is the nodal agency only for the construction of the urban housing. The municipality will identify the beneficiaries. While the Central government provides a subsidy of Rs 1.5 lakh, the state government offers subsidy of another Rs 1.5 lakh. The banks will give loan for the rest of the amount other than the beneficiary contribution.
