Hyderabad: Going cashless helps web business

'Post November 8, most orders are for e-commerce sites from merchants and retailers.'

Hyderabad: After demonetisation, some wholesalers, retailers and even general stores, bakeries and gifts and novelty stores are approaching web designers to set up dynamic websites with secure payment gateways.

With this, the demand for web designing has increased 10-fold, web developers said. Freelancers who used to design a website to two per month earlier are now dealing with at least 10 orders per month after November 8.

Freelance web designer R. Shyam Kumar from Nagole said clients used to ask for a user-friendly web design which would look good. “Very few clients used to ask for e-commerce models with payment gateway options. Post November 8, most orders are for e-commerce sites from merchants and retailers,” he said.
“Most clients are asking for secure payment gateways and approaching third-party payment gateways against other payment options,” he said.

Sytech Labs CEO Sandeep Mudalkar said that over 150 e-commerce sites had adopted the ‘wallet’ option. Those who did not adopt the e-commerce model were utilising digital payment gateways.

All transactions going digital now
With the cash crunch continuing, shoppers are turning to digital transactions even to pay small sums. This was seen especially during the shopping for the recent Christmas festivities.

Major e-commerce websites have announced special discounts up to 50 per cent on a range of items with coupon codes related to “Christmas.”

According to the survey firm ‘Media RedSheer’, cashless payments at merchant points had increased by 40 times and online shopping doubled after demonetisation.

It said that the growth in the cashless economy was observed in e-tailing, transport/travel, hotel, health, education and entertainment sectors.
Mr V. Anil Reddy, former president of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said merchants would have to move to a cashless economy system.

“In developed countries, customers use card payments for even half-a-penny. We should reach the same stage, we should overcome challenges in achieving the goal by educating people in rural areas. It is a good indication that merchants are beginning to adopt cashless payment systems by procuring point of sale machines and going in for e-commerce websites,” he said.
