ORC, country's first multidisciplinary research campus, launched in Bhubaneswar

Indian Knowledge System, ICSSR, IIM-Sambalpur, IIT- Kharagpur and IIT- Bhubaneswar sign as collaborative partners

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Research Centre, a multi-disciplinary study campus to be run by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) in collaboration with Indian Knowledge System, ICSSR, IIM-Sambalpur, IIT- Kharagpur and IIT- Bhubaneswar, was launched in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

The Centre will promote study and research on Odisha’s glorious past and suggest roadmaps for development of the state.

Two Governors—Raghubar Das of Odisha and Biswa Bhusan Harichandan of Chhattisgarh—along with Union education and skill development minister Dharmendra Pradhan jointly launched the Centre.

On the occasion, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Division of the Union ministry of education, ICSSR, IIM-Sambalpur, IIT- Kharagpur and IIT- Bhubaneswar for expansion of the ORC.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the Odia Research Center will prepare a roadmap for the development of the state, development of Odia language and Odia youths.

“Odisha will observe its 100th year of its statehood in 2036. Similarly, India will celebrate its 100th year of Independence in 2047. We want to see that the state makes rapid strides in various fields before that. The ORC will play the role of catalyst in this direction,” said the minister.

The ORC will conduct in-depth studies and research on the state’s art, culture, archaeology, tradition and literature, sociology, human sciences, political process and political culture, agriculture, commerce, business and industrialization, development trends of contemporary Odisha, science technology and healthcare. Besides, it will also conduct research on future technology, smart cities, climate change, environmental protection and sustainable development, semiconductors, rare earths and advanced minerals, informed the minister.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Lok Sabha member from Cuttack, Bhartruhari Mahatab, and many other dignitaries were also present at the ORC launching ceremony.
