Military Intel unit arrests imposter posing as soldier

The accused, Manjunath Reddy, was arrested from his rented house at Lord Krishna Estate, Surathkal.

Mangaluru: The Military Intelligence Unit arrested an imposter, who was posing as a Army junior commissioned officer.

The accused, Manjunath Reddy, was arrested from his rented house at Lord Krishna Estate, Surathkal.

A case under IPC Section 171, 419 and 420 has been registered at the Surathkal police station and many items related to Army uniform, used by the accused to pose as the serving Indian Army soldier including scanned fake Indian Army ID card, fake dependent card and fake rubber stamps, were recovered from his house.

Manjunath Reddy told the investigators that he had earlier worked at the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment Center, Belgaum campus as a civilian employee from where he purchased the army dress.

He said that he posed as Army Junior Commissioned Officer of the rank of naik subedar/subedar/subedar major and organised various public events like felicitation ceremonies for retired and families of martyred army personnel.

He also had allegedly duped various people of lakhs of rupees by making fake promises. The Army Intelligence and police suspect this as a big fake recruitment racket being run by fraudulent agents to make money in which imposter Manjunath Reddy is not acting alone.

The investigators suspect that the accused may have people from inside Army, especially Maratha Light Infantry Regiment Center, Belgaum or any Maratha Regimental Army units who are assisting/guiding the imposter to carry out such acts. The investigation is under progress by both Police and Army Intelligence Unit.

Reddy was arrested by Number 4 Detachment Southern Command Liaison Unit, Intelligence Team led by Intelligence Officer Major Swathi Srivalli Dharwadkar.
