DGP directs police dept to use only Tamil, wins praise
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Director General of Police, J K Tripathy on Monday directed all officers and establishments in the state police department to conduct their communications and correspondence only in Tamil with immediate effect. His directive has won all-round praise from political leaders and Tamil enthusiasts, besides getting the social media excited with positive posts aplenty.
In a Tamil circular sent across all officers and stations in the state, DGP Tripathy said only Tamil should be used while recording the cases in the Community Service Register (CSR, maintained in all police stations), all the communications and correspondence in the stations and other police establishments, besides the file notings. Also, the police vehicles should carry the painted announcement, 'Kaaval' in Tamil instead of 'Police' in English, he has ordered.
All name boards, including those on the desks of senior officers carrying their names, should be in Tamil. The office seals too must be in Tamil in all the police stations and other police establishments, the DGP said in his circular.
The widely circulated Tamil directive has caused huge positive response, not only from the men and women in his police force but also the general public, political leaders and Tamil activists. Many took to the social media to post their appreciation. Among them, Anthuvan Iraikodai tweeted praise in Tamil, saying it was heartening that an officer who's not a Tamil has taken such an initiative to show respect to his foster state's language. "Hearty greetings and thanks to TN DGP for taking such a bold initiative that was not thought of even by our Tamil officers", he said.
DMK president M. K. Stalin too came out with handsome praise for Tripathy for his Tamil-only circular and said it should be "implemented in its entirety and in the best manner".
