Hyderabad: Nurse tries to end life over harassment
Hyderabad: Ms K. Sujatha, a nurse at ESI Hospital, attempted suicide stating that the assistant superintendent of nursing P. Manjunath was harassing her and despite complaints, no action was taken against him.
Based on a complaint filed by the Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) on Sunday morning, a police case has been registered for harassment at the SR Nagar police station.
Local CITU president J. Eshwar Rao explained, “Sujatha is working as a nurse on contract basis in the ward. There are 50 beds in the ward. The two permanent staff nurses were not co-operative and dumped the entire work on her. Whenever she complained, there was no action taken.”
“To add to this, assistant superintendent Manjunath insisted that she must do all the work in the ward. There was also a lot of harassment as her leaves were also cancelled. No action has been taken even after a complaint was made with the medical superintendent,” Mr Eshwar Rao alleged.
On Saturday night, Ms Sujatha took sleeping pills and was not responsive. The nurses who were on duty rushed her to the emergency ward of ESI Hospital where she was treated. She is now out of danger.
CITU has demanded that action must be taken against both the dean and the medical superintendent of the hospital and the college as they had failed to protect her despite her complaints about harassment.
