An 18-year-old college girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming cow dung powder (pest) on Thursday near Sulur in suburbs of Coimbatore.
Warangal: A former Naxal Gandi Sammaiah, 45, attempted to commit suicide on Saturday. The incident took place at Venkatapur in Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district. Sammaiah owns two acres land and ownership changed in January. When he contacted the tahsildar, he was asked to pay Rs 1 lakh bribe rupees as a bribe to do the needful.
After expressing his inability to give such a huge amount, Sammaiah agreed to give Rs 10, 000 and paid the amount to the deputy tahsildar sometime back. Yet the land's title was not changed in his name. Distressed with the deputy tahsildar's attitude, he attempted suicide by consuming poison on the tahsil office premises. Office staff Sammaiah to Mulug area hospital and his condition was said to be stable.
