Mysuru: Dressed in tees, jeans? It's Sammelana no go!
Mysuru: Has a dress code been imposed on students attending the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana being held in Mysuru?
A girl student, who was wearing a T-shirt and pair of jeans, was asked to vacate the main venue at the Maharaja’s College Grounds as she was wearing western clothes. As she headed to the venue to watch cultural programmes, a few people, claiming to be volunteers, asked her to leave the place. Taken aback by this “undeclared” dress code, the girl left the venue without creating a scene.
Later, she told this reporter that two weeks ago, the heads of all educational institutions were asked to inform their students to wear traditional clothes and not western outfits if they wanted to visit the venue to see cultural programmes. But it was only an oral order from the education department officials.
Such a dress code has hitherto never been imposed at any previous Kannada Sahitya Sammelanas held before this event, but has been imposed in Mysuru.
