Andhra Pradesh: Quality of vegetables in Rythu Bazaars poor

Customers disppointed by upkeep of government-run markets.

Visakhapatnam: The availability of the vegetables has increased at Rhythu Bazaars in Vizag, but the customers are expressing displeasure over the poor quality of vegetables such as onions, tomatoes and few others being sold at Rythu Bazaars. The officials have been receiving complaints about the quality of vegetables and poor facilities at the Bazaars from the customers but so far they didn’t take any step to sort out the issues.

In Vizag, one can get fresh vegetables in the retail markets only by paying little extra money as the quality of the vegetables at government-run Rythy Bazaars is low says P. Arun Kumar, a resident of MVP Colony area in the city. What is the use of buying vegetables from Rhythu Bazaars when quality of the essential vegetables is bad? Poor quality onions are being sold at Rs 45 a kg in Rythu Bazaars whereas good quality onions are available at Rs 50 a kg in open markets.

Officials of agriculture and horticulture departments are least bothered to maintain the quality of the produce, he pointed out. Not only quality of vegetables but also the other facilities at the Rythu Baazars in the city are not up to mark. Most bazaars also lack vehicle parking facilities and the sanitation at the Bazaars is also poor said D. Sudhakar, a resident of Pedawaltair area in the city. Sources said that Joint Director Marketing (Rythu Bazaars), Visakhapatnam, Srinivas and his team will review the facilities at Rythu Bazaars and address the grievances of the consumers.
