Bengaluru: Hrishikesh Mukherjee film festival from December 2 to 4

Hrishikesh's films were also characterised by its music tracks.

Bengaluru: Pickle Jar, a Bengaluru-based community-led effort, is organising a three-day Hrishikesh Mukherjee film festival showcasing 13 of his finest and most popular works from December 2 up to December 4.

The movies will be screened at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Alliance Française de Bangalore and Suchitra Film Society, Banaswadi, which is also the screening partner for the Hrishida Festival.

Hrishikesh, the man behind a number of memorable films likes Golmaal, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam and Namak Haram, to name a few, was honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke, Padma Vibhushan and eight Filmfare awards.

“Hrishida’s films carried simple narratives, but made a strong impact, a style that seems to be fading away in today’s culture of blockbusters and high-budget films. Through this festival, we are trying to revive the values, the idealism and the ethos that Hrishikesh Mukherjee and his films stood for,” said Vasanthi Hariprakash, founder of Pickle Jar.

Renowned actor and director Amol Palekar, who starred in many of Mukherjee’s comedies including the blockbuster Golmaal, will also be part of the festival.

Hrishikesh’s films were also characterised by its music tracks. A grand musical finale, Kuch Dil Ne Kaha, will be organised at the Kassia Auditorium. “When we began collaborating on this festival, one thing that all of us unanimously agreed upon was the fact that we should have a segment that celebrates the timeless music in Hrishida’s films and what better way to do that than a musical!” exclaims, the festival spokesperson Sheshadri Mokshagundam.
