Vijayawada: Activist suffers burns during TD's protest
Vijayawada: A Telugu Desam activist suffered burn injuries when he came too close to a burning effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Guntur on Thursday.
TD activists had staged a rally in the city and later gathered at Lodge Centre, protesting against the intervention of the Central government into CBI affairs.
They poured petrol on an effigy of the PM and lit it.
However, Telugu Yuvatha member S. Chaitanya came too close to the effigy and his clothes caught fire. His fellow protesters put out the fire, but not before he received burn injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
During the protest, Guntur district TD chief and Vinukonda MLA G.V. Anjaneyulu alleged that the NDA government was ordering I-T raids targeting TD leaders in the state to tarnish the party’s image.
He said that the PM was using CBI for political mileage and to harass his political rivals.
Mr Anjaneyulu recalled that earlier Modi had ordered similar raids and checks in Tamil Nadu and was now targeting AP to destabilise TD government.
