Complete white topping by summer, Dr G Parameshwar tells BBMP
Bengaluru: BBMP officials were on Thursday pulled up by Deputy Chief Minister, Dr G Parameshwar for shoddy and incomplete civic work, and given a summer deadline to complete the half-finished work on white topping of roads in some areas.
“Why hasn't the white topping of roads and remodelling of others under TenderSure been completed even two years after the work began?” Dr Parameshwar, who is also Bengaluru Development Minister, demanded at a review meeting in the city with the officials concerned.
Noting that on many stretches of the city the roads were white topped only on one side, he ordered the officials to complete the rest of the work by summer. When told that work on the 100 km project was delayed as the traffic police were not allowing it on roads with high density of vehicles, he promised to hold a meeting with them to sort this out. Also, noting that tenders had not been called for garbage management for the past two years, Dr Parameshwar gave the BBMP a month to invite them and promised that power generation would begin from recycled rubbish in the next 10 months in all eight zones of the city.
Reviewing the progress on the multi-level car parks near Freedom Park in Gandhinagar, he instructed the officials to work faster and complete the project on time. As for the division of the BBMP, Dr Parameshwar said the government had not come to any decision on the B S Patil report suggesting it. Giving the details of the review meeting to reporters, he said action would be taken on the MeToo allegations of the pourakarmikas against their superiors, if they gave a complaint.
