Bhubaneswar: CBI raids houses of 2 contractors
Bhubaneswar: The CBI on Thursday conducted raids on the residences of two contractors who were arrested earlier in connection with financial irregularities in the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
As per the information available, a five-member team of the CBI raided the houses of G. Sudan Khusla and Sadananda Nayak, accused of committing financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 1 crore. Sources said the CBI registered complaints against seven employees of the HAL.
The three arrested contractors had received Rs 5 crore from HAL between January and August, 2018, sources added.
On October 13, the Sunabeda police arrested three contractors on charges of fraudulently transferring Rs 45 lakh to their bank accounts. The main accused, Bhaben Maitra, a senior manager (finance) of HAL, is absconding. Maitra, who was facing an inquiry into the financial irregularities, fled after burning official documents and currency notes worth Rs 1.67 lakh last Sunday.
On October 07, HAL internal vigilance department and Sunabeda police jointly raided Maitra’s official residence.
Notably, the fraud was detected during an internal audit and on being asked by deputy general manager Venkat Rao to produce authentic bills and vouchers, Maitra tried to offer a bribe.
