Urdu teachers flay Telangana government over jobs

When contacted, Deputy Chief Minister Mr Mohd Mahmood Ali said that the government is sincere in its approach.

Hyderabad: Urdu medium teachers across the state are crying foul over the recently issued notification by the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) to fill up the vacancies of SGT in various government schools in the state. They say that the school education department had sent the notification wit-hout properly assessing the vacancy requirements.

“Around 1,400 Vidya volunteers across the state are working in the place of secondary grade teachers. Then how come only 636 SGT posts of teachers are vacant?” asked Mr Khalid Hussain, State President, All India Ideal Teachers Association.

The representatives of the union are contesting the assessment of the school education department in identifying the actual vacant position of the vacancies in the schools across the state. “As per our calculation, around 1,800 teachers’ posts are lying vacant in Urdu medium schools across the state. More-over, of the 636 SGT posts to be filled around 279 vacancies are reserved for SC,ST and BCs which never get filled as not many candidates from the communities apply for the post”, said Mr Mohd Moinuddin, State general secretary, Majlis Teachers Association.

Mr Taher Farooq, of Telangana Teachers Association, said that the vidya volunteers were allotted to the schools only after assessing the student strength of the school.

On Tuesday, representatives of a few teachers' unions met AIMIM floor leader Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi who demanded that a special District Selection Committee exam should be held for the recruitment of Urdu teachers. He assured them that he would take up the issue with the government and also demand the establishing of a separate Commi-ssionerate for Urdu schools for effective monitoring.

When contacted, Deputy Chief Minister Mr Mohd Mahmood Ali said that the government is sincere in its approach. "If at all there are any discrepancies in the notification we will rectify it after going through the records. Generally such things do not happen", he said.
