Hyderabad: The 2 per cent quota for sportspersons in government jobs in Telangana will come into force soon. Currently, the sports quota is implemented only for admissions in educational institutions.
There has been a long-pending demand from sportspersons to extend the quota to government jobs to encourage sports in state. Though attempts were made in the undivided AP when N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was the Chief Minister, it did not materialise.
The previous Congress government even issued the order in 2012 on sports quota. However, recruitments could not be carried out due to the Telangana statehood agitations till 2014.
Recently, the sports department wrote to the state government, requesting implementation of the sports quota in government jobs. The proposal has been referred to the Chief Minister for approval.
