Opposition looks for chinks in TRS armour

Leaders visit offices to collect data, nail government.

Hyderabad: As the countdown for the Assembly session begins, leaders of Opposition parties are visiting government offices and social activists to collect information on departmental scams and irregularities that they can use to corner the ruling party in the House.

Cases filed by the ACB, probes by Vigilance and Enforcement, and scams in departmental funds are being studied. They are also looking for city-based issues to raise in the House.

M. Padmanabha Reddy, secretary, Forum for Good Governance, said, “Many people have approached the forum for the list of cases filed by the ACB that was rejected by the state government and instead sent for inquiry. Also, information on why there is no standing judge for the Tribunal for Disciplinary Proceedings and zero appointments of its supporting staff are being looked at. Cases pertaining to manipulation in funds at Secretariat-level and even in government schemes have been asked for.”

Sources in the GHMC, Transport, Water Board, and departments of irrigation and Excise revealed that several RTI applications, filed by members belonging to various political parties much ahead of the Assembly session, are now being pursued.

“Presently, there is rigorous pursuit of RTI replies. Also, many first appeal applications have been filed due to delay in providing RTI replies,” said a source.

Congress MLA Challa Vamshi Chand Reddy said that first the government will be cornered on the issue of farmers’ distress. “A demand to provide MSP will be raised in the House. Secondly, following the rains in October, certain crops have been completely damaged. The government will be asked for compensation. We will also demand action against officers exposed in scams. Also, we will question the government on the expenditure of loans,” he said.
