Trump card in Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM district secretariat decision to field V.K. Prasanth, 38, in Vattiyoorkavu is seen as a smart move in political circles considering the young Mayor’s people friendly image and stupendous work during recent floods in the state.
Many say the CPM has taken out its trump card considering the fact that the constituency is going to witness mother of all electoral battles should the BJP decide to field former Mizoram Governor Kumanam Rajashekharan who came second in 2016 polls. The Congress is also considering several names for the constituency.
Many say that it goes to the credit of Prasanth that despite being a minority council and facing a hostile BJP contingent, he could successfully steer the corporation and managed to implement several development projects in city. “The development act-ivities in city is being carried out cutting across community, caste, political and religious differences. With the help of all sections of society, efforts have been made to take place the city on the top slot in the country. Smart City project reflects the tireless efforts being undertaken,” he said.
The work done in state Capital for collecting relief materials for the flood affected people att-racted not only national but global attention. “Youth cutting across political affiliations came together in huge numbers to contribute and that’s the spirit of the young generation. People will definitely evaluate all these works during the forthcoming by-election,” he said.
Prasanth has risen from the ranks as panchayat member, DYFI area secretary, CPM area committee member, councillor and Mayor’s post came to him rather unexpectedly. He says in today’s world more than communal and caste considerations, people want to elect persons who can deliver.
