Bengaluru: Quashing of BU VC’s appointment stayed

Of the several serious allegations, Prof. Venugopal is accused of submitting false caste certificate and income certificate.

BENGALURU: The division bench of the Karnataka High Court has stayed the single-judge bench order, which on Tuesday, had quashed the appointment of Prof. Venugopal K.R. as Vice Chancellor of Bangalore University. The court has stayed the operation of the single-judge bench order till October 18.

Prof. Venugopal and the Bangalore University have filed an appeal against the Tuesday's order.

Meanwhile, the court has issued notice to Dr. Sangamesh A Patil, a senior professor who questioned Venugopal’s appointment on various grounds including a series of allegations against Prof. Venugopal, so as to file objections in the matter by October 18.

Of the several serious allegations, Prof. Venugopal is accused of submitting false caste certificate and income certificate to gain appointment in UVCE in a fraudulent manner.Further, Sangamesh had questioned the appointment on the grounds that it violates Sec 14 (4) of the Karnataka Universities Act, as there was no concurrence between Chancellor and the State Government in appointing Prof. Venugopal to the post.

Sulwadi temple tragedy: Accused denied bail

Bengaluru: The High Court has dismissed the bail petition of junior seer of Salur Matha, Mahadevswamy, the prime accused in the Sulwadi temple prasada tragedy.

At least, 17 people died and 104 fell ill after they consumed prasada laced with poison on December 14, 2018, at Kichguth Maramma temple in Sulwadi in Hanur taluk, Chamarajnagar district.

Elephant deaths: Expert panel told to submit report by Oct 30

Bengaluru: The High Court has approved the new committee with the inclusion of three new experts, to conduct a comprehensive study of the deaths of elephants in eight elephant camps in the state.

The new expert committee will include Dr Kalaivanan, Dr Ashraf, Chinnappa and others. The committee is directed to visit the elephant camps and submit a report by October 30.
