Azam Khan case: ED set to record statement

Mr Ali, in the FIR, claimed Mr Khan threatened him into giving his land to the university illegally by using his power as a minister.

New Delhi: Trouble seems to be brewing for Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Azam Khan as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is expected to record the statement of Abdul Ali, who had lodged a complaint with the local police, alleging that he was threatened by the SP MP into not giving his land for the expansion of Jauhar University (linked to Mr Khan) in Rampur, in a day or two.

Sources said, “Abdul Ali is a complainant. The agency will interrogate Mr K-han and other persons linked to him only after recording the statement.” Mr Ali had stated in his complaint that he was kept in jail for 15 hours and his land was encroached upon by the university, sources said adding that this information need to be verified.

The agency has already registered an FIR against Mr Khan and three others after Mr Ali complained that he was allegedly threatened into giving his land to the Jauhar University. Mr Ali, in the FIR, claimed Mr Khan threatened him into giving his land to the university illegally by using his power as a minister.

“They said if I did not give land to the university then they will charge me under the case of drugs act and put me behind the bars. He also stated in his complaint to the local police that he was kept in jail for 15 hours and his land was encroached upon by the university,” sources said.
