Telangana: Lokayukta fails to give platform for redressal
Hyderabad: The Lokayukta/Upa-Lokayukta of the two Telugu-speaking states has failed to provide a platform for the redressal of grievances made by the public against public servants.
For the last 10 months, this institution has not had anybody at the helm, since there was no presiding judge to preside over allegations of corruption, maladministration, abuse of power and inaction.
The last statistical report from the Lokayukta dates back to 2015, enumerating that 5,358 complaints were received, plus has a backlog of 3,669 complaints. The total of which was disposed and available for disposal, leaving 4,005 complaints pending.
The registration of such complaints in 2015 resulted in collection fees of Rs 3,75,536, out of which remitted amount was Rs 3,34,536 to the complainants upon disposal of the case. No statistical report has been reported since, leaving the number of current complaints unaccounted for.
This institution formed under the Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayukta Act 11 of 1983, is an independent body that was to investigate complaints in a ‘quick, effective and inexpensive manner’.
