Rs 2,000 crore for ‘Compete with China’ scheme: CM H D Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru: Chief Minister H.D.Kumaraswamy announced on Tuesday that the state government had decided to earmark Rs 2,000 crore for its 'Compete with China' scheme in its budget next year. This is a huge jump from the Rs 500 crore allotted for the scheme in the current budget. Interacting with members of the vision group constituted under the scheme here, he said his government was giving a thrust to manufacturing sector by utilising locally available infrastructure and providing jobs to the locals as part of it.  

He revealed that a solar panel manufacturing unit would be established in Kalaburgi, a tiles and sanitary unit in Hassan, a toys unit in Koppal, a textile park in Ballari, a mobile components unit in Chikkaballapura, a sports and fitness manufacturing unit in Tumakuru, and a PCB unit in Mysuru.  “The government will provide all support and assistance to establish industrial units in tier-2 cities to provide jobs in these parts. But we need information on what infrastructure facilities these cities need,” Mr Kumaraswamy told the vision group, asking its members to provide the necessary inputs and support the  government needed to create a favourable environment for establishment of industries  in tier-2 cities. 


In response, the vision group members said they would  submit a report after an indepth study .  Also present at the meeting were  Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister, Ramana Reddy, Principal Secretary to the Industries and Commerce department, Gaurav Gupta and Industry department officials.
