BJP willing to offer tickets to campus leaders

Whether the Swami would be projected as a leader to head a state, Mr Lakshman said that it was too early to deliberate on such issues.

Hyderabad: The BJP was ready to offer tickets to young leaders from university campuses if they were otherwise suitable and wedded to the ideals of the party, said BJP state president K. Lakshman. On inviting dissident leaders like Konda Surekha who was waiting to join parties opposed to the TRS, he said that they were welcome as the BJP always strived to bring change in politics.

Setting aside speculation that Swami Paripoornananda would be projected as a dependable BJP face, Mr Lakshman said that the Swami was speaking “saffronisation” of Telangana which is what the party wanted. Whether the Swami would be projected as a leader to head a state, Mr Lakshman said that it was too early to deliberate on such issues.

Speaking at the party office on Tuesday marking the birth anniversary of party ideologue pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, he said any vote given to the TRS or the Mahakutami amounted to strengthening MIM and therefore people should be wary of the machinations of these leaders.

BJP leader Bandaru Dattathreya said the Congress was riddled with scams and the Mahakutami was nothing but an “amalgam of poison”. He said that no two parties in the Mahakutami had a common agenda adding that it would disintegrate under its own weight.

On the other side, Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao never acted like a member of Team India and was carrying on his own agenda which was at variance with Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas, he said. Finding fault with the TRS government for not participating in the centrally sponsored Ayushman Bharath health insurance scheme with superior benefits to the poorest of the poor, Dattathreya said that the government did not care for the welfare of the people. Referring to a tweet by Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao, he said that the Arogyasri extended benefits only upto Rs 2 lakh while Ayushman Bharath gave coverage upto Rs 5 lakh.
