Nizampet's Vignan School fee plan to stay for next academic year

The school was previously involved in the expulsion of two students because of WhatsApp messages shared by their parents.

Hyderabad: The authorities of Vignan School, Nizampet, have issued a circular to students stating that the fee structure for 2017-18 will continue to be applicable for the academic year of 2018-19 as well. Fees will not be increased annually as is a common practice for private schools.

The circular states, “We understand the financial disturbances that parents have been put through due to the changes in national and international fiscal policies.” Parents are sceptical about the motives behind this move as the fees have been increased by 30 per cent this year.

Ramana Jetti, a parent, says, “My child is no longer studying at Vignan from this year onwards. The fees have been hiked from Rs 48,000 to Rs 66,000. For the past five years, they have only been increased by 10 per cent to 15 per cent. This year’s hike has made up for two years. The authorities should reduce the current fees.”

While parent associations across Telangana laud the move and hope that more schools follow suit, they also expect schools to reduce their current fees. “We cannot keep paying high fees. Although the move is appreciated, the existing fee structure is burning holes in the pockets of parents,” says a parent.
