13 lakh saplings to be distributed to dairy farmers in Telangana

Green brigades are being formed to ensure plant protection.

Hyderabad: In a new initiative to bring together animal husbandry and Haritha Haram projects is on the anvil. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has decided to give 13 lakh saplings to dairy farmers in the state.

Through the new scheme, each dairy farmer will receive six fruit bearing trees to plant, which could then be used as fodder for the animals. Officials say, “The initiative which will begin on Dasara, will increase the green cover of the state.” Adding to this, they said that the plan to achieve 33 per cent green cover in the state is in full swing. The greening target of 100 per cent has already been achieved in ten districts and in the other sixteen districts 70 per cent has been achieved.

Green brigades are being formed to ensure plant protection. The forest department too has begun a new initiative of geo-tagging plants that have sprouted, by linking them to Google maps. Over 69 per cent of plants have been geo-tagged till recently. According to the Chief Minister’s instructions, the forest department will ensure regular supply of water to all plants should the rains subside before the seedlings sprout.
