Visakhapatnam: Dumping of chemicals affects local players

DGAD receives petitions to investigate into dumping.

Visakhapatnam: Dumping of chemicals from other countries affects local players. Dumping of chemicals from Saudi Arabia used in the coating industry and fertilisers from a few other countries has affected the domestic players, including those based in AP.

The Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties has started a probe into the dumping of the chemicals at AP ports following complaints from the domestic players.

Recently, Andhra Petrochemicals filed a petition before the DGAD to start anti-dumping duty investigation into imports of normal butanol originating in or exported from Saudi Arabia.

Similarly, Deepak Fertilisers and Petro-chemicals Corporation and Smartchem Technologies jointly filed a petition before the DGAD for anti-dumping investigation concerning imports of ammonium nitrate from Russia, Indonesia, Georgia and Iran. The DGAD said that they have sufficient prima facie evidence of dumping of chemicals from these countries.

Sources said that between 1992 and 2014, the DGAD had initiated anti-dumping investigations into 309 products.

The countries/regions prominently figuring in anti-dumping investigations include China and EU.
