Bengaluru: Man fights with cop, walks free!
Bengaluru: Not everyone can take on the police and get away unscathed. But a 38-year-old resident of Koramangala had a lucky escape after he took on a police officer, and was accused of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty. But for the High Court letting him off with a stern warning, saying trial courts were loaded with more serious criminal cases, he could have found himself in far deeper waters .
The petitioner, who approached the High Court, seeking to quash the proceedings against him pending before the XLIII Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, said he was travelling in his car on June 18 this year when he saw a police inspector of the HAL police station, doing breath analyser tests on drivers and holding up traffic. He said he protested the poor traffic management and quarelled with the police inspector, who then filed a case against him for stopping him from carrying out his official duties. He urged the court to quash the case filed and fortunately for him, the judge did.
“The contentions of the petitioner would vividly indicate the scene that must have occurred. The second respondent having been irritated by the intervention of the petitioner complaining about the traffic, while he was legitimately carrying on his duties, would certainly have filed a complaint," the court observed in its order on September 15. But it added that when trial courts were loaded with serious criminal cases, the present case did not deserve attention and, quashing the proceedings against the petitioner, warned him not to indulge in any such ädventurism in future.
