4 persons dead from downpour in Visakhapatnam

The flood waters washed away a 17-year-old.

Visakhapatnam: Four persons died on Sunday as the heavy rain, caused by the ongoing low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, which had kept off north coastal Andhra Pradesh for the most part returned to the region with a vengeance over the last two days.

Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts are facing a flood risk rivers like Vamsadhara, Nagavali, Vegavathi, Mahendratanaya and Suvranamukhi are filling up.

Following the collapse of the slab, Karri Apparao, 70, and Karri Nagamma, 65, of Vepadu died on the spot. According to S. Kota inspector Ramana Murthy, the locals cleared the debris and took the bodies out. The bodies have been sent to post-mortem.

The flood waters washed away a 17-year-old, identified as Prasad, when he went to see the water flow into the Lakshmipuram tank near Chodavaram of Vizag district.

In another incident, B. Ravindra Prasad, a Class VIII student of St. Mary School of Araku, accidentally fell in a swollen pond near Dumbriguda.

Even though he was fished out immediately and transferred to the nearest hospital, he was declared brought dead.

A woman was injured when a wall collapsed due to the ongoing rains in Gajuwaka on Sunday. Seven thatched huts collapsed in various villages and roads were damaged on Sunday. The officials set up a control room in the collectorate.
