Messages on Twitter save life of buffalo

The buffalo was found lying on its side opposite a supermarket in Kompally.

Hyderabad: For three days, a buffalo that was injured in a hit-and-run accident lay in a pit beside the busy road at Kompally but no one turned up to help it.

The buffalo was found lying on its side opposite a supermarket in Kompally. Its plight caught the attention of Mr Laxman Suchitra, an assistant professor, who found that the animal could not move. He looked around for help to shift the animal but none was forthcoming. He restricted himself to feeding the buffalo.

Mr Robin Zaccheus, a passerby, complained to the GHMC and requested help from non-government organisations but there was no response. When contacted, a member of a gou rakshak group said they rescue only cows. The owner of the buffalo also did not come looking for it.

Finally, on Sunday evening, Humane Society International (HSI) responded to messages on Twitter and sent a team at 6 pm to rescue the buffalo.

Mr Panneeru Teja, who was part of the seven-member rescue team, said they found that the buffalo had suffered multiple injuries and was not in a position to move. It was administered first aid, lifted out of the pit and taken to a hospital.
