Despite government’s claims, 50 per cent streets are dark

This has led a GHMC official to claim that the Centralised Control and Monito-ring System (CCMS) seemed to be a major flop.

Hyderabad: About half of the streetlights in the city are dysfunctional. The information dashboard report, however, shows that 90 per cent of the LED lights are glowing. But, complaints have been pouring in from different parts of the city.

This has led a GHMC official to claim that the Centralised Control and Monito-ring System (CCMS) seemed to be a major flop. An official said that about 50 per cent of LED streetlights installed in the central, south and west zones were either dysfunctional or facing frequent repairs.

Besides, as many as 16,000 LED streetlights have not been switched on for a year.

According to highly placed GHMC sources, the government released a government order, GO No 76 on October 28, 2016, to replace the high-pressure sodium vapour (HPSV) streetlights across the city. Data showed that about 65,000 lights still need to be replaced.
