Madras day at ICF with 40 eminent personalities

Headed by Ms Nivedita Louis, well known writer and historian, there was interacting session with 'Mahila Sakthi' all women teams in the ICF.

Chennai: Integral Coach Factory (ICF) on Saturday celebrated the 379th 'Madras Day commemorating the founding day of the great city of Chennai that was called Madras then, in a unique way by inviting a delegation of 40 eminent personalities from areas of excellence in Chennai city.

Headed by Ms Nivedita Louis, well known writer and historian, there was interacting session with 'Mahila Sakthi' all women teams in the ICF. The team consisted of prominent names such as S. Ulagammal, an education counsellor, Umayal Subramanian, a social activist, V. A Veluchamy, civic activist and others.

The dignitaries met all 10 Mahila Shakti women teams numbering about 137, working in different sections of coach production at ICF and interacted with them.

The visiting dignitaries were amused by the sizeable number of women in Mahila Shakti team, who undertake arduous tasks in railway coach manufacturing such as welding, fitting, harnessing, stitching and moulding of seats. On par with their male counterparts, these women are working hard and thus breaking the barriers of gender bias.

The Mahila Shakti team members enthusiastically shared their views with the visitors and said that they were excited in getting involved in such tough jobs and contribute their best in production of coaches at ICF which is arguably the largest railway passenger coach manufacturer in the world.
