Centre can have Polavaram: Chandrababu Naidu
Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made it clear on Thursday that the AP government was ready to hand over the Polavaram project works to the Centre. Reviewing the Polavaram project works through drones from the command control here, the CM said that there would be no objection from AP even if the Centre directly takes control of the project works.
However, Mr Naidu emphasised that the Centre should release the Rs 1700 crore that has already been spent on the project by the state government. The project works would be taken up on war footing, from September 1, the CM said. He said that the progress of the works would be monitored every month.
Of the total 10.49 cubic meters earthwork, nearly 4.2 crore cubic metres has been completed so far. As much as 2.5 lakh cubic metres of earthwork will completed per day from now on, the CM said. The wall works have been expedited after the L&T brought in machinery required for this purpose. The spillway works would be completed soon. “Illumination will soon be provided so that the work can continue round the clock,” Mr Naidu said. He alleged that Congress and YSRC leaders had taken commissions from contractors yet works remained incomplete. “Now, these same parties are creating hurdles,” Mr Naidu alleged.
