Vijayawada: Minister blocking college, say locals
Vijayawada: Local leaders and students staged a protest here on Thursday, demanding the government shift the Urdu Junior College in the West constituency of Vijayawada into a newly-constructed building for the Government Urdu Junior College at Kabela Centre.
The protesters alleged that the local MLA and minister for endowments, Vellampalli Srinivas, was trying to allocate the building constructed for the Urdu College to the Gurukul school.
For the past two days, students have been staging a protest in front of the college demanding that government officials respond urgently and shift the Urdu College into a new building and appoint the faculty along with the first facilities. They alleged that that Vellampalli Srinivas was deliberately avoiding the issue and would not even meet Muslim leaders for a solution.
Parents said that they were concerned that the minister was working behind the scenes to close down the Urdu College. They said that it was shocking that while Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was trying to strengthen public schools, his ministerial colleague was trying to close down the Urdu College.
They demanded the state education minister to respond immediately and do justice to Muslims.
