Kollam: Post office charged with tampering letters

Dr Kavitha alleges harassment started after she filed a petition against a panchayat member.

KOLLAM: A homemaker here has complained that 'somebody' at a post office in East Kallada opens all her letters.

D. Kavitha of Anju Bhavanam at Koduvila has been receiving tampered letters after she filed a petition with the National SC/ST Commission against a panchayat member in her area who insulted her by calling her caste name.

She has approached the head post office in Kollam with the complaint after she received two letters from the commission which had been opened by someone. The post office officials gave a strange reply that the letters were opened to find the address to be delivered. The other day, Dr Kavitha returned a letter to her husband which was tempered with.

However, the postman maintained that he had received the letter in that condition. The post office officials also denied any role in opening the third letter.

According to Dr Kavitha, the incidents started after she filed the petition against the panchayat member. She said that somebody was keen to know the reply in these letters from the agencies concerned.
