Know your mistake: MVD makes violators ‘wardens’
Kochi: Vehicle riders proceeding through the Seaport-Airport road were surprised to see plain-cloth personnel controlling traffic near the Children’s Home on Thursday.
Only after some time did they come to know they were traffic law offenders caught by the motor vehicle department officers for violating one-way traffic rule.
“An accident had occured at the spot on July 22 when a vehicle came violating the one-way. So we held a checking to find such offenders," said an MVD official.
A total of 40 drivers were caught violating the rule in two hours. They were all asked to pay penalty and also posted as 'traffic wardens' to find other offenders.
“Only if they see the risk themselves will they understand the seriousness. Hence we asked them to stand there. Afterwards they were allowed to go after giving an undertaking that they won't commit the mistake again," the official said.
