Hyderabad: Forum questions Genco pick
Hyderabad: The Forum for Good Governance submitted a representation to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to initiate action against officials responsible for allegedly choosing outdated technology for the 1,080 MW Bhadradri power plant leading to inefficient operation of the units, causing pollution and affecting public health.
Forum secretary M. Padmanabha Reddy, alleged, “TSGenco has acted in a highly irresponsible manner and is constructing the project with outdated technology which will have a long term deleterious effect on public health and environment. It is clear that TSGenco has shown undue favour to Bhel and procured old machinery lying idle which was originally manufactured for India Bulls, for establishing the unit with outdated technology.”
He said the Centre had mandated the use of super-critical technology for thermal power plants which cause less pollution and produce more power for the same amount of coal as compared to plants with sub-critical technology.
Despite this, in October 2014, Genco had entered into an agreement with Bhel for sub-critical technology, he said.
