Girls need equal care: Ex-IAS officer Shantha Sheela Nair

Prof Dr K. Meena, former VC, Bharathidasan University, urged that awareness of menstrual hygiene must be spread.

TIRUCHY: Former senior IAS officer Ms. Shantha Sheela Nair, former vice-chairman of the State Planning Commission, has stressed the need to give equal importance to girl children and said female fetuses should not be aborted under any circumstances.

Mrs. Nair made this observation while delivering her keynote address a function on Sanitation and General Hygiene Awareness programme, jointly organised by Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College, Menstrual Hygiene Management Consortium (MHMC) and 'SCOPE', an NGO here on Sunday. She also underlined the need for women to take nutritious food during menstruation.

She also released a booklet on 'General Hygiene' and stickers of slogans on MHM programme, besides launching the website of MHMC.
