Four Bangladesh nationals held with fake Sri Lankan passports

A police officer said that it is unclear whether the passport has been issued by passport office or has been forged.

Chennai: Four Bangladeshi nationals, who tried to fly out of the country to go to Malaysia on fake Indian passports, were detained by the immigration officials at the Chennai international airport in the early hours of Thursday. Two of them were later placed under arrest and are presently in custody of the Chennai airport police, who are interrogating them to find out how they got the fake passports.

According to immigration officials, the accused, identified as Madbor Masub(38) and Manor Miah(31) along with two young girls aged, 18 and 13, tried to go to Malaysia via Columbo in a connecting flight on fake Sri Lankan passports. They were to take an early morning flight scheduled for 4 am. However, an immigration official grew suspicious of them and they were detained for further investigation.

After verifying their passports, it was ascertained that they were not Sri Lankan nationals and the passports were found to be fake. Mabdor and Manor claimed that they got married with the two girls recently and they were on a honeymoon trip to Malaysia.

They were handed over to the airport police on Thursday afternoon, where an FIR was registered against the two men under cheating and forgery sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of Foreigners Act and Passport Act and rules.

A police officer said that it is unclear whether the passport has been issued by passport office or has been forged. The police are also probing for how long they have been staying illegally in the country. The accused will be produced before a magistrate court in Alandur late on Thursday night, sources said.

Meanwhile, police also suspect the men might have lured the two women by offering money and promises of a good life and attempted trafficking the two young Bangladeshi women from poor families into prostitution in Malaysia. Further probe is on.
