Amid rain deficit, Telangana seeks 10-year data

Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi held a meeting with senior officers to review the situation on the monsoon and crop conditions in the kharif season.

Hyderabad: In view of the dry spell, the state government on Thursday directed all collectors to submit crop wise monthly reports pertaining to the past 10 years, including water levels of reservoirs and groundwater levels, before the first week of August.

Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi held a meeting with senior officers to review the situation on the monsoon and crop conditions in the kharif season.

Mr C. Parthasarathy, principal secretary, agriculture, and Mr Rahul Bojja, commissioner, agr-iculture, informed Mr Joshi that farmers have sowed seeds for various crops in the state on 27, 64, 744 hectares.

They said paddy cultivation was low so far in view of the dry spell and 64 per cent of cultivation of other crops has been completed in the state.

The CS pointed out that in June and July the normal average rainfall in the state is 317.2 mm, but this year, till July 24, only 200.2 mm rainfall has been recorded.
