Seats in unauthorised units violate Supreme Court order

Experts alleged that almost 6,000 students join AICTE-unapproved deemed universities.

Hyderabad: Deemed-to-be-universities admitting students in 2018-19 without All India Council for Technical Education approval will be violating Supreme Court directions, and this may jeopardise the future of students

The council has asked students to go check the list of approved deemed-to-be-universities who have got approval of their technical programmes on the AICTE web portal before taking admission. It is illegal to offer unapproved courses, the council said.

Experts alleged that almost 6,000 students join AICTE-unapproved deemed universities. Since these courses do not have recognition, they cannot pursue further education and securing employment becomes difficult.

An AICTE official said, “That is why we released a public notice to alert students and their parents.”

Dr Srini Bhupalam, president, All India Federation of Self-Financing Technical Institutions, said, “First of all we need to help these students. The TS and AP government should act swiftly to cancel the admissions in illegal institutions and get the fee of the students refunded.”

“This must happen quickly because admissions for 2018-19 are coming to an end and they need time to apply,” Dr Bhupalam said.
