Power projects: No contracts to private companies, says KCR

The CM wanted BHEL, that has taken responsibility of construction of thermal power plants, to speed up the work.

Hyderabad: Asserting that private companies will not be given contracts to construct power projects under any circumstances, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday reiterated that TS would become a power surplus state by completing all the proposed thermal power plants on fast track basis.

The CM expressed satisfaction that the PSUs like the BHEL and Genco are living up to the expectations of the government in setting up these plants and generating power.

Since the PSUs are generating power, it is ultimately good for the people and possible to give concessions to farmers and the poor, Mr Rao said.

The CM wanted BHEL, that has taken responsibility of construction of thermal power plants, to speed up the work.

Mr Rao made it clear that he wanted the 800 MW thermal power plant coming up in Bhadradri of Kottagudem district be completed by the end of the year. He also wanted the 1,080 MW thermal power station in Manugur to be completed on fast track basis.

The CM wanted work on the 4,000 MW ultra mega power project at Damaracherla to begin and the project completed within 36 months.

He said that since the 720 MW Kottagudem power plant will have to be scrapped by next year, steps should be initiated to set up a new 800 MW plant there.
