Hyderabad HC seeks details of corrective, protective homes in TS, AP
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday asked the state governments of AP and Telangana to place all details with regard to the steps being taken for establishing corrective homes and protective homes under the law relating to prevention of immoral trafficking.
A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice A.V. Sesha Sai was dealing with a plea by Prajwala, a NGO represented by Ms Sunita Krishnan, seeking directions to the AP and Telangana governments to take steps to run protective homes for victims of sex trafficking for the purposes of rescue, rehabilitation and repatriation.
Mr. D. Prakash Reddy, senior counsel and amicus curiae in the case, told the court that there was an urgent need to establish the homes. Mr. L. Ravi Chander, senior counsel appearing for the petitioner, stated that there were only three protection houses in operation in Guntur, Mahbub-nagar and Nalgonda.
When the bench sought to know whether any individual or the institution had approached the governments to establish the homes, counsel for both states replied that they had received certain applications in this regard. While directing counsels place all the details before it, the bench posted the case to Wednesday.
Indu boss asks HC to quash CBI case
The Hyderabad HC on Monday asked CBI to spell out its stand on petitions moved by Indu Group chairman I. Syam Prasad Reddy to quash criminal proceedings in the illegal investments case of YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Mr Reddy challenged the three chargesheets filed by the CBI showing him as one of the accused in the case.
According to the CBI, the erstwhile YSR government had allotted land to Indu Tech Proj-ect, Lepakshi Knowl-edge Hub Project and a joint venture project between the Indu group and the APHB.
Referring to the High Court quashing the chargesheets against Mr N. Srinivasan of India Cements and IAS officer K. Ratna Prabha in a similar case, the petitioner’s counsel, Mr Vijayasen Reddy, said in both the cases the court had found that CBI had failed to prove that they had entered into a criminal conspiracy in their individual capacity.
Telangana advocates stage protests in city, Delhi
Telangana advocates on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the High Court in support of Advocates Maha Dharna at Delhi demanding bifurcation of the High Court between AP and Telangana.
Advocates practicing in HC gathered at the high court gate during the lunch hour and staged protests demanding steps for establishment of separate High Courts for Telangana and AP.
They also demanded for recalling the provisional allocation of subordinate judicial officers between both the states and also revoking of suspension of judicial officers and staff of Telangana state who were suspended recently on the ground of participating in the agitation.
