Bad roads: Bengaluru Mayor pulls up engineers
Bengaluru: Mayor B.N. Manjunatha Reddy on Monday warned area engineers that action will be taken against them if the fail to maintain roads from Nayandahalli to Summanahalli Circle and Ring Road.
Following numerous complaints from the public and also artist Badal Nanjundaswamy’s art installation highlighting the pathetic state of the pothole-riddled road near Nayandahalli on Sunday, Mr Reddy made a surprise inspection of the junction.
He was angry seeing potholes on Magadi Road and pulled up the engineers for not filling them. He said the BDA has given permission to the BBMP to remove weeds on either side of the road and asked why the engineers, despite knowing this decision, had not removed plants growing on the roads.
Later, he told reporters, “The BDA constructed the road and handed it over to the BBMP for maintenance. But the roads are not being maintained. There are deep craters on the road which have affected the movement of traffic. Strict action will be taken against the officials if the roads are not maintained,” he said.
He also observed water seeping from the Nayandahalli BDA flyover and said it was because of lack of maintenance. He said he would write to the government for repairing it at the earliest. He said the Palike will give sufficient funds for development of roads to ensure trouble-free driving for vehicle users.
Deputy Mayor S.P. Hemalatha, ruling party leader R.S. Sathyanarayan and the joint commissioner of Rajarajeshwari Nagar zone accompanied the mayor on his surprise inspection.
