Vijayawada to get ₹600 cr makeover

CM Jagan Mohan Reddy was intent on turning Vijayawada into a model city and sanctioned Rs 600 crore to change the face of the city

Vijayawada: Minister for endowments Vellampalli Srinivas Rao said Vijayawada would be developed as a model city with Rs 600 crore funds. He laid foundations for development works taken up at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore in the city on Saturday.

Rao said that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was intent on turning Vijayawada into a model city and sanctioned Rs 600 crore to change the face of the city. Basic amenities would be provided in all the divisions under the Model city project.

The minister inaugurated a newly constructed water tank with 455 KL capacity in 48-division, along with MLC S.k. Karimunnisa, Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi and VMC Commissioner Prasanna Venkatesh. He responded to a plea for a community hall at Yerrakatta down and directed VMC officials to prepare a proposal.

Rao distributed blue and green bins to locals in the 42-division for segregation of dry and wet waste. He informed that six divisions were selected for the Clean Andhra Pradesh (CLAP) programme and asked the people to hand over only the segregated waste in separate bins to the sanitation staff.

The Mayor said that the VMC launched the development of roads and took up the creation of parks and other basic amenities to provide a great makeover to the city. She sought the cooperation of citizens to achieve the task.
