Kochi: Cusat shipbuilders go global

After a gap of four years, the placement status of department of ship technology has touched cent per cent in 2019.

Kochi: The students of Department of Ship Technology of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) have bagged jobs with lucrative pay packets as 21 students received 69 job offers from 22 reputed companies.

Yaswanth R. Kamath of the 40th batch (B Tech in naval architecture and shipbuilding) was offered the highest annual pay package of Rs 24 lakh when he got placed as naval architect at the Oshima Shipyard, Japan.

“All 19 students who passed without supplementaries were offered lucrative job offers while three with one paper to clear, too, got placements,” said Prof K Sivaprasad, faculty advisor for placements. “International companies like Damen Shipyard (Norway) and Nordic Marine (Netherlands) offered Rs 10 lakh annual pay package to another four students.” The recruiters include the likes of Cochin Shipyard, Hindustan Shipyard, Mazagon Dock, International Bureau of Shipping, Goa Shipyard, Tata Consultancy and L&T Shipbuilding among others.

“After a gap of four years, the placement status of department of ship technology has touched cent per cent in 2019. The lucrative offers show the huge demand in the sector,” he said.

Mr Kamath is the first student to receive a sponsorship from the Cusat University. He also got sponsorship from RINA, London.
