Kochi: AMMA cell to solve women complaints

The decision was taken at a meeting held here on Tuesday.

KOCHI: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) will undergo a change in its organisational structure as it has decided to form an internal complaint cell inorder to resolve the issues of women inside the organisation.

In addition, the AMMA leadership will have four women, of which one would hold the post of vice-president and they will also be members of the executive committee.

The decision was taken at a meeting held here on Tuesday. The annual general body meeting which will be held on June 30 will have discussions regarding the matter as only a general body can take the final decision on the matter.

The move comes months after the members of Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) raised allegations against the organisation that it lacks a cell to resolve issues related to women in the industry.

The WCC had earlier slammed AMMA against its ‘irresponsive attitude’ towards its demands on the actress case and reinstatement of actor Dileep, accused in the actor-abduction case, to the organisation.

Earlier, actors Rima Kallingal and Padmapriya, had filed a writ petition demanding the formation of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in AMMA. Following this, the High Court had issued notice to AMMA seeking response about the same.
