Karimnagar: 40 eat breakfast at state school, fall ill

About 84 students are pursuing the Intermediate first and second year courses in Model School of Keshava-patnam.

Karimnagar: Forty students from TS Model School for Girls in Keshavapatnam mandal were hospitalised as they fell ill after consuming breakfast that was served in the school here on Thursday.

About 84 students are pursuing the Intermediate first and second year courses in Model School of Keshavapatnam. On Monday night three of them fell ill after consuming food which was served for dinner and were shifted immediately to a nearby hospital.

On Tuesday morning, 37 more students of the school complained that they were suffering with severe stomach pain after consuming breakfast. On receiving the information from the locals, district medical and health officer Ram Mohan Rao, who was heading towards Huzurabad on work, rushed to the hostel. He was accompanied by Deputy DMHO Rajamouli and tahasildar Vijaya Lalitha.

Officials called 108 ambulances and shifted some of the students to Huzurabad government hospital and some others to Karimnagar government main hospital for medical treatment. An inquiry has been initiated into the matter.

The doctors said that the students fell ill after eating adulterated food and added that all the students who were admitted in the hospital were safe and out of danger and would recover soon.

Representatives of the students unions alleged that the students studying in model and gurukul schools opened by the TRS government were facing a lot of problems due to the lack of basic facilities. The incidents of students who are studying in model and gurukul schools and colleges falling ill has become common in the state.
