Congress, JD(S), BJP differ on JSW land deal

Speaking to reporters after the PAC meeting, Mr Ashok said the BJP had no faith in a sub-committee, which had no representation from it.

Bengaluru: While the controversy over the proposed lease- cum -sale of over 3600 acres to Jindal Steel Works in Ballari figured in the meeting of the Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, no agreement could be reached on the issue with all three parties present differing on it.

While BJP leader, R Ashok opposed the formation of a cabinet sub-committee to study the issue, JD(S) state president, H Vishwanath reportedly stuck to his stand against selling the land to the company. Congress leader, H K Patil, who is also against sale of land to the JSW, was however, clear that the government should wait till the cabinet sub-committee submitted its report on the issue.

Speaking to reporters after the PAC meeting, Mr Ashok said the BJP had no faith in a sub-committee, which had no representation from it. "The sub-committee will always give a report in favour of the government, as only cabinet ministers will be part of it," he argued.

Mr Vishwanath, however, continued his tirade against handing over the land to Jindal and said he too was against at the idea of a sub-committee to review the issue.
