Chennai:City\'s first regulated traffic zone established

Speaking on the occasion Mr. S.S. Kim, MD, Hyundai Motor India said, “India has one of the highest road accidents.

Chennai: Motorists in Anna Nagar would have to be driving well within the rules. Otherwise, they would receive challans for breaking traffic rules in Chennai's first T.R.O.Z (Traffic Regulation Observed Zone), which has been completed by Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor. A bank of 63 super sophisticated cameras and a fully equipped monitoring room, installed at a cost of Rs 2.5 Crores, was handed over to Chennai Police.

The cameras are located at five key junctions of Anna Nagar - West Depot, Thirumangalam Junction, K4 Police Station, Round Tana and Shanthi colony entry junction.

Forty cameras have been exclusively installed to track number plates of traffic violators, while 18 cameras will provide proof of violation and five cameras will be used for total surveillance enabling the traffic police to take action against offenders.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. S.S. Kim, MD, Hyundai Motor India said, “India has one of the highest road accidents. Not only are these accidents expensive, they also have psychological impact which leaves the victims and their families scarred for life. These accidents can easily be prevented if drivers and pedestrians are responsible and traffic rules are respected by all road users.”

The equipment was handed over to Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai, A.K Viswanathan in the presence of Mr. C. Samayamoorthy, IAS., Transport Commissioner, Govt. of Tamil Nadu and Mr. A. Arun, IPS., Addl Commissioner [Traffic].
