BBMP, are you waiting for the floods?

Around a month ago, the traffic police identified over 43 spots that are prone to water logging and submitted the list to the civic body.

Bengaluru: It has been more than a month since the city traffic police submitted a list of spots where water-logging occurs in the city to the civic body, but no work has been taken up to fix the problem. While the BBMP claims that it has already started the work at a few places, the people are not convinced and are angry that the Palike is doing nothing to address the issue.

Around a month ago, the traffic police identified over 43 spots that are prone to water logging and submitted the list to the civic body, which had assured them that the work to fix the issue would be carried out before the monsoon begins. But no work has been progressing anywhere.

On works not being carried out, a senior traffic police officer said that they have done their duty and it is for others to take the next step. The officer said that he cannot comment as there might be several procedures to follow and approvals required.

A traffic police inspector said that they had identified the water-logging spots in their area and after submitting the list they were hoping that the civic body would address the issue at the earliest, but nothing has happened. He said, “On Monday, it rained for a few minutes and the underpass in our jurisdiction was flooded and we had mentioned about this particular issue. But no one has even come to look at it. As the police department, we have done our duty by identifying the spots, now it is up to other agencies to look into it.”

A senior BBMP officer claimed that they have already begun the work at few places and it will take some time to solve problems at all spots. When asked to name the places where the work has begun, he did not want to comment.
