Abdullakutty ignoring state BJP leaves leaders fuming

Even when SNDP Yogam approached them in 2015, they got a cold shoulder, which led them to contact the central leadership directly.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state BJP is not happy with A. P. Abdullakutty's move without taking them into confidence.

Ever since he came up with a controversial Facebook post eulogising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, its president P. S. Sreedharan Pillai has repeatedly been welcoming him to the party fold.

Even when SNDP Yogam approached them in 2015, they got a cold shoulder, which led them to contact the central leadership directly.

This time Mr Abdullakutty was successful in meeting the duo at the top with the help of a party MP.

The move has not gone down well with a section of senior leaders, especially former district presidents who have not received due recognition. “There are several senior leaders who have never got proper accommodation after putting in several decades of exemplary service," a veteran told DC.

“When the BJP is openly welcoming a leader like Abdullakutty who has a track record of being in CPM and later in Congress with open hands, it sends out a wrong message to the cadre.”

At the leadership meeting held in Kannur on Friday, a section of leaders had demanded that he should be roped in. But the top brass maintained that the ball is in the court of the central leadership.
